Knowledge that stays behind a paywall does not save a life at 03:00 in a small ICU on the other side of the world. Open is our default.

01

The principle

YODA operates on the assumption that scientific outputs — data, code, protocols, teaching material — should be public unless a specific ethical, legal, or safety reason requires otherwise. Closed is the exception, not the norm.

02

What we open

  • De-identified datasets from YODA-led studies, under stable DOIs.
  • Statistical and modelling code, versioned in public repositories.
  • Clinical protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Educational material — slides, figures, and modules — free to reuse and adapt.
03

How we license

  • Datasets: CC BY 4.0 by default.
  • Educational material: CC BY 4.0 / CC BY-SA 4.0.
  • Code: MIT or Apache 2.0.
  • Machine learning models: released with training cards and validation reports.
04

Where you can find it

All open resources live in the YODA Open Science Portal. This policy is the governance layer; the portal is where the artifacts are.

05

Exceptions

Data may be withheld when release would violate patient confidentiality, breach ethics approvals, or create clinical harm. Exceptions are documented and reviewed by the Ethics Committee, not decided in private.
